Greetings and welcome to our February newsletter! This month, as we honor Black Women's History Month, it's vital to acknowledge the challenges neurodivergent Black women face. They often encounter misdiagnosis and lack of understanding, compounded by systemic discrimination rooted in historical and societal factors like racism and sexism. We must address these biases, amplify their voices, and advocate for inclusive mental health care. Let's celebrate the resilience of Black women and commit to dismantling barriers to equitable support for neurodivergent identities. If you have the courage, please speak up for all neurodivergent people, as they deserve to be seen, heard, and understood in the workplace.
As we step into the new month, we're embracing the theme of courage. This year, February brings with it the excitement of being a leap year, signifying a departure from the patterns of the past three years. While change can often feel unsettling, it remains essential for our personal growth. Embracing change requires courage, as we navigate new paths and opportunities. It's fascinating to note that amidst life's fluctuations, the only constant we can count on is change itself.
Courage intersects deeply with the concept of neurodiversity, particularly concerning the acknowledgment and acceptance of differences in neurological functioning. Embracing neurodiversity requires individuals to confront societal norms and biases, advocating for the recognition of diverse cognitive styles and abilities. It takes courage to speak openly about one's neurodivergence and how it impacts daily life. Many neurodivergent individuals face stigma, misconceptions, and discrimination, making it daunting to discuss their differences openly. However, by fostering a culture of courage, individuals can empower themselves and others to embrace their neurodiversity proudly. Courage enables individuals to share their experiences, challenges, and successes, fostering understanding, empathy, and support within communities. Moreover, it encourages society to move beyond stereotypes and create inclusive environments that celebrate the unique contributions of all individuals, regardless of their neurological differences. In essence, courage serves as a catalyst for promoting acceptance, respect, and equality in the realm of neurodiversity.
Moreover, courage is the driving force behind transformative change in our lives. It takes courage to embark on new adventures, leave behind what no longer serves us, and step into the unknown. Throughout our journey, we often find ourselves clinging to familiarity and routine. Change can be daunting, and the fear of the unknown will hold us back. Yet, it is through courage that we find the strength to break free from stagnation and embrace positive transformations.
Why do we stay stuck in our lives? Often, it's the allure of predictability and the comfort of the familiar that keeps us tethered to the past. Change requires us to confront uncertainty and step outside of our comfort zones. But it's when we muster the courage to take that first step that we open ourselves up to new possibilities and opportunities for growth.
Are you aware that courage resides within everyone? Indeed, it's true. You possess it too. I encourage you to discover your courage this month and enact one positive change in your life. Take a risk, venture beyond your comfort zone, and discover the incredible opportunities that await you. For instance, consider trying a new class or joining a new club. Let go of items in your life that no longer serve a purpose.
My big change this month is adding yoga to my schedule. I have no idea how it’s going to work out but I’m willing to take the risk and offer it to whomever needs it. What are you going to do differently this month?

SOMETHING NEW FOR 2024
Therapeutic Yin Yoga Classes:
I recently completed a 50-hour Yin Yoga training at the Soul of Yoga. I am excited to announce that I will be offering small therapeutic yoga classes in my office and outdoors, weather permitting. These classes will be available in person and via Zoom.
Why Yin Yoga? Yin Yoga offers a multitude of benefits, including decreased hyperactivity, increased body awareness, improved emotional regulation, anxiety reduction, better sleep, enhanced mood, and improved concentration and focus. Additionally, Yin Yoga facilitates myofascial release, allowing emotional trauma to be released from the tissues. Physically, Yin Yoga increases circulation, improves flexibility, balances internal organs, releases fascia, and improves joint mobility.
Yin Yoga holds a special place in my heart because of its profound impact on my well-being. Not only does it enhance the quality of my sleep at night, but it also serves as a powerful tool in managing my highly energetic body and mind. Through Yin Yoga, I find myself better able to focus and maintain mental clarity. It facilitates a deep connection to my emotions, allowing me to release any pent-up feelings that may be holding me back. Moreover, this practice has greatly improved my flexibility, benefiting my rock climbing, biking, paddle boarding, and running endeavors.
Join me for an introductory Yin Yoga class, kicking off a seven-week series starting at the end of February. The first introductory session will take place on February 27th, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, with the full series beginning the following week. Admission is $20 per class, and you have the option to enroll in the entire seven-week series for $130. If you sign up by February 27th.
After March 5th, the series price will be $145 for all seven classes. All classes will be recorded, allowing you to catch up on any missed sessions at your convenience.
