Welcome to Dr. Pound's November Newsletter!

A woman and 2 dogs

Dear Clients,

It is with both a heavy heart and a spirit filled with gratitude that we announce some

bittersweet news. Dr. Pound would like to share that her beloved therapy dog, Dr. Lily,

has recently crossed over to the other side of the rainbow. Dr. Lily, an extraordinary

companion, played a vital role in the therapy process and graced our therapy space with

an abundance of love and light.

Dr. Lily's presence was truly unparalleled, and her soothing energy made every therapy

session a little brighter. Her wagging tail, warm gaze, and unconditional love created an

atmosphere of serenity and trust for everyone who had the privilege of meeting her.

Welcome Brody

In honor of Dr. Lily's memory, Dr. Pound has continued to spread her love by fostering

stray dogs through the wonderful organization, Bichon Fur Kids. Her latest foster, Brody,

has quickly become an integral part of our therapy family. You might catch a glimpse of

Brody on a Zoom call or, if you visit our office, you'll likely be welcomed by his cute,

enthusiastic tail-wagging.

It is well-known that dogs bring a unique sense of calm and comfort to the therapy

room. Dr. Pound and Brody are excited to continue this legacy, ensuring that all who

visit us experience the same soothing and healing presence that Dr. Lily once provided.

As we remember and celebrate the life of Dr. Lily, we welcome Brody with open arms,

knowing that he will be a loving and supportive addition to our therapeutic journey

Impact of Attending the 2023 IFS Conference

Most recently, Dr. Pound attended the 2023 IFS Conference at the Sheraton in Denver

and during one of her workshops she learned more about Highly Sensitive People

(HSPs), an often overlooked and fascinating group within the neurodivergent

community. In fact, she focused all of the workshops she attended on neurodiversity

and ablism. Ablism is an important topic to explore because it impacts many people

with non-visible disabilities such as ADHD, Autism, and Highly Sensitive People.

Understanding Highly Sensitive People (HSP) Spotlight HSP is important because it can be confused with autism, ADHD, OCD, and Sensory Processing Disorder. They possess a unique trait known as Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS), which makes them exceptionally attuned to their environment, emotions, and sensory stimuli. This heightened sensitivity can be both a gift and a challenge, and it's important to acknowledge and celebrate their experiences. However, this is not the same as sensory processing disorder.

Empathy and Creativity: HSPs are often characterized by their deep empathy, creativity,

and intuition. They tend to pick up on subtle cues and experience emotions more

intensely than others. Their ability to connect with people on a profound level is truly

remarkable and can contribute to positive changes in various aspects of society.

The Challenges of Being an HSP: While being an HSP comes with many strengths, it

can also present challenges. Highly sensitive people may struggle with overstimulation

in busy environments, and they might be prone to stress and anxiety. Understanding

and embracing their sensitivity is crucial for their well-being.

Recommended Book: For anyone interested in learning more about Highly Sensitive People, we recommend The Highly Sensitive Person by Dr. Elaine Aron. This book provides valuable insights into the HSP personality, helping both HSPs themselves and those around them better understand and support their unique needs.

Share Your HSP Stories . . .

As we celebrate Highly Sensitive People this month and prepare for next month's

spotlight, we encourage you to share your stories, questions, and resources. Together,

we can foster a more understanding and inclusive world for all neurodivergent

individuals. Highly Sensitive People offer profound insights, and by embracing their

unique traits, we can enrich our collective understanding of the human experience.

Upcoming Events and Resources

Mindfulness and Self-Care is essential to practice and prioritize during this holiday

season. Please make time for meditation, yoga, or journaling, to help manage your

overwhelm and stress levels effectively. If you are interested in joining Dr. Pound in a

Yoga Nidra Series starting in January please let Faith know, and we will get you signed

up.

November is a great time to start journaling everything you are thankful for. Dr. Pound

has free journals in her office. If you would like to stop by to pick one up they will be on

the wooden bookshelf by the front door. Oh! and don’t forget to drop a gratitude note in

the gratitude jar on the front desk. Happy Thanksgiving!

Watch for Your December Newsletter

In December, our Neurodivergent Spotlight will explore how Highly Sensitive People

intersect with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This intersection provides

a unique perspective on the challenges and strengths that both conditions bring, and

we'll provide resources and insights to help navigate this intricate terrain.

And Remember
